Final Picture

Artist Statement

I’m not an organized person. My bedroom is unorganized. I shouldn’t be able to find anything in my room because I can’t see my floor, but I can. Within the mess everything is somehow organized. My laundry is piled in the corner of my room, my blankets are piled so high that I constantly trip over them, and I have game boards that are awkwardly leaning on my wall. The game boards made me think about how games are organized.

For a game to be fair, there has to be order. There has to be clear rules. The rules don’t always have to be followed. Sometimes people forget the rules or lose directions, so they make stuff up as they play. My family did this a lot with Monopoly. If making up rules could be done with one game, then it can be done with multiple games mixed together. Tons of games put together can be a mess from just looking at it, but once someone sees there is purpose in the mess, it’s not as confusing.

I purposely didn’t put people in the picture because I didn’t want the people to take away from the game pieces. On a die, a question mark is depicted. This represents that the dice are confused with what is happening. The game of “Life” spinner is near the top of the picture because it looks awkward directly in the middle. Within all the confusion there is order.
