Final Picture

Artist Statement
Childhood is a time where we are young and still learning. We believe everything that we hear and see, but when we get older we start to question the world around us. We get surprised when everything is different than what we expected. A time that this happens a lot for children is learning the truth about Santa.
In the picture, a girl just heard that Santa isn’t real. The open-mouth and wide eyes of the girl proves she is shocked. I kept the girl darker in the picture, because symbolically she is, “in the dark,” and the father in the picture is brighter because he makes her “see the light.” I also had Christmas lights and the Santa hat to make the audience know that they are talking about Santa.
I took he picture from different angles and lighting to find which one looked the best. I ended up choosing the angle from the right of the father because I was standing right in front of the room door, so the perspective of the camera is acting as someone who just walked into the room and witnessed what was happening.
